Polyvinyl Formal (PVF)
Innovative Insoform® and Insothane® Products for Wire Coatings.
Overview
Insoform®, chemically known as polyvinyl formal (PVF), is a key material used in the production of magnet wire or wire enamel coatings. When combined with phenolic or other resins, Insoform® creates enamel coatings that offer exceptional adhesion, thermal stability, and mechanical strength. These coatings are essential for providing electrical insulation, preventing shorting in transformer coils, and supporting coil life expectancies of up to 40 years, even in high-temperature environments.
In addition to primary coatings, Insoform® is utilized for secondary coatings, offering excellent moisture resistance, as well as in applications such as binders for magnetic tapes, surface coatings for improved durability, and adhesives for structural applications.
Insothane®, a blocked poly-isocyanate product line, is used as an additive to create solderable wire enamels. Insothane CT polyurethane enamel-coated wires exhibit remarkable thermal and mechanical properties. Its compatibility with a wide range of resins—including alkyds, polyesters, polyethers, and polyacetals—makes Insothane® a versatile choice for producing varnishes with excellent mechanical, electrical, and hermetic properties.
